Kicking off 2015
What a better way to ring in 2015 than some time on the mountain!
2014 Our Year in Review
2014 was an amazing year! Though we put away the camera this year and tried to live in the moment there are lot’s of adventures and memories that we will have forever. The pictures we do have are of joy and life which is all we can ask for.
Bar Expansion
Those of you that know us know that the craft of the cocktail is an art form that we like to explore at the Scrivner household. An evening drinking here is more about the taste experience and quality than anything else. The love started in 2010 with brewing beer at the Graven’s house with Will and Ken. While the brewing was fun and the boys were enjoying exploring the world of beers our interests as a group quickly evolved into cocktails, with a little spurring from Ken of course.
Angels Rest to Devils Rest
We decided a nice hike in the gorge would be the best way to spend a weekend so Brent and I packed up our gear and headed east. Since we haven’t done big hikes this summer we used the Angels Rest to Devils Rest Loop Hike as a training hike and loaded our bags down heavy. The total hike is about 11 miles, with overall elevation gain of 2770…
Weekend fun with Will
What fun would a weekend be without a little insanity…
Hawaii Honeymoon Highlights
Our trip to Hawaii was relaxing and full of adventure at the same time. What honeymoon would be complete without gorgeous views, lovely beaches, and a half marathon???
Honeymoon and a Half!!!
So what do you do on your honeymoon???
Upon arriving in Honolulu we couldn’t help but notice all of the signs for reduced parking on April 13th. It turns out we arrive just in time for the Hapalua Half Marathon on Waikiki Beach.
Eat, Drink, & Be Married!

Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument
So far this year we climbed two amazing mountains, Half Dome and the South Sister…. So let’s make it three!
Newberry National Volcanic Monument
For labor day weekend we decided to head to Bend and relax in some sunny dry weather. I had been to Newberry National Volcanic Monument several times but the only memories I have there are of a snow covered landscape riding our snowmobiles up to the peak. So this time, Brent and I decided to make the hike up the Peak and check out the obsidian flows.
Climbing the South Sister
Instead of going camping like we had originally planned we decided to climb the South Sister. We loaded up the car and headed to Devils Lake for an early start to beat the heat. From the trail head to the peak of the South Sister is 6 miles with an elevation gain of about 5000 feet to the final elevation of 10,358 feet. Known as “Grace” the South Sister is the youngest and tallest of the three sisters.
