East Zigzag

To avoid the poison oak of the Gorge we have decided it was time to try some trails on Mount Hood. On Sunday we hiked up East Zigzag Mountain  with Rob and Ashley. I think we may have found one of our new favorite hikes of the year so far. The trail was beautiful, and the scenery was what you expect from the gorgeous Oregon rain forest.

Starting early at the Burnt Lake trail head we traveled through dense forest area along Lost Creek and past Burnt Lake to the Zigzag Mountain trail which leads up Zigzag Ridge. Over roughly 4.5 miles we gained  2300 feet of elevation to our final destination and lunch stop, East Zigzag Mountain. The top is rocky ridge at an elevation of 4971 feet, with fantastic views all around especially of Mount Hood and the Cascade Range to the north.

This was also our first hike with our new camera! We have rekindled our passion for the art of photography and are so excited to see where this next chapter takes us.
